The study indicates that CT scans may account for 5% of all new cancer diagnoses in the U.S.
Researchers warn that certain groups, like children, may be more vulnerable to the harmful effects of ionizing radiation.
Studies have shown that infants who undergo CT scans may have a higher risk of developing certain cancers, such as thyroid cancer.
