Health is a vehicle, not a destination.
THIS WEEK DAN AND I ARE CONTINUING ON THE SERIES, HOW THOUGHTS AFFECT OUR HEALTH/BODY? PLUS, THE BOOK TEN-MINUTE RELAXATION FOR MIND AND BODY.
Hello Followers,
Happy Hump Day!
Dan and I noticed how the starting date of the "Christmas shopping season" seems to get earlier and earlier.
Decorations are often even available for purchase before Halloween.
So, when does the actual Christmas season start, in terms of the liturgical year?
The early start to the commercial "Christmas season" should come as no surprise.
Stores obviously want to do whatever they can to increase their sales figures, and consumers are willing to go along.
Many families have holiday traditions that involve preparing for Christmas in visible ways starting in November; putting up Christmas trees and decorations, holding holiday parties with family and loved ones, and so on.
What most people think of as "the Christmas season" is the period between Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
That roughly corresponds to Advent, the period of preparation for the Christmas feast.
Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas (the Sunday closest to November 30, the Feast of Saint Andrew) and ends on Christmas Eve.
Advent is meant to be a time of preparation of prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and repentance.
In the early centuries of the church, Advent was observed by a 40-day fast, just like Lent, which was followed by the 40 days of feasting in the Christmas season (from Christmas Day until Candlemas).
Indeed, even today, Eastern Christians, both Catholic and Orthodox, still observe 40 days of fasting.
This "preparation" season has bled into secular traditions as well, resulting in the pre-Christmas season that we are probably all familiar with.
Technically, however, this is not the true Christmas season as observed by churches; that has a start date that is much later than you might think, if you are only familiar with popular culture depictions of Christmas.
So, let us get ready!
And as we go into the Christmas mood, our mind-body connection is far more powerful.
This leads us to our new series, how thoughts affect our body/health?
Continuing from yesterday, research has found that techniques of meditation, positive imaging, progressive muscle relaxation are instrumental in alleviating anxiety, and symptoms of depression as these techniques arouse the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for inducing feelings of calmness and relaxation, as opposed to the activation of sympathetic nervous system under the state of panic and anxiety.
Until tomorrow-
DECEMBER 7th, Dan, and I thought on continuing this segment with the series with some fun; What is it about December that is so significant during this month?
National Letter Writing Day – December 7, 2022
This holiday event is for those who have not written in a letter in a long time.
And fortunately, today we have no excuse because it is National Letter Writing Day.
Letter writing has been in decline because of smartphones, the Internet and before that, the telephone, but for hundreds of years, it was the only way for people separated by distance to contact one another.
Today is a wonderful day to get back to basics and hand-write a letter.
But isn’t the idea of sitting down for half an hour and handwriting something to somebody special?
We miss it.
Don’t you?
Write back to Dan and me in the comments below.
Love, us.
Today is also, National Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance –
Dan and I on our twenty fifth anniversary, had taken a trip to Hawaii.
During that trip we visited Pearl Harbor.
This goes out to all the soldiers and sailors that fought and died during that time.
Time is precious and is priceless, so Dan and I will continue each day to pull from a box of 365 inspirational quotes, one quote and share with you.
Today is:
THE LIFE YOU WANT BEGINS BY EMBRACING THE LIFE YOU HAVE.
Today Dan and I will be continuing the book, Ten-Minute Relaxation, For Mind and Body by Jennie Harding.
Whenever you are feeling under pressure, ten minutes is all you need to relax totally, using tools that are always with you; your senses.
This book is packed full of wonderfully simple ideas and exercises for using sight, taste, smell, hearing, and touch and that vital sixth sense of intuition to rebalance your energies and bring you back into harmony with the natural world around you.
Identify your favorite sensory relaxation solutions and combat that stress!
Per Dan and my experience this is another component in keeping ourselves healthy, meditation.
By using your five senses, you can learn to relax in just ten minutes.
CHAPTER 2; THE SENSORY JOURNEY; TOUCH
TOUCH THE ESSENCE OF CARE-
CONTINUING ON SIMPLE FACE MASSAGE-SWITCHING ON THE SENSE
Face massage is extremely easy to administer yourself in front of the mirror.
To work easily on delicate facial skin.
As well as to nourish and feed it.
It is good to use a rich carrier oil like jojoba.
This is a liquid plant wax that gives a silky but not greasy feel to the skin.
In the upcoming post Dan and I will be sharing some face blends to make up with combinations of essential oils.
Choose a blend to suit your skin type.
BASE: four teaspoons jojoba, enough for three to four applications.
BLENDS:
Dry/mature skin; three drops sandalwood and two drops frankincense.
Combination/dry skin; three drops geranium and two drops lemon.
Sensitive skin; one drop rosewood and one drop lavender.
First cleanse and exfoliate the skin using the geranium and petitgrain oatmeal facial scrub on a prior post.
Pat dry, then you are ready to apply the blend.
Tomorrow, FACIAL SELF-MASSAGE SEQUENCE
The PHRASE TO REMEMBER; Health is Wealth.
We stand by this and continue to do daily; walk, meditation, and Qigong.
If you would like to follow with us; hash tag words #walk, #meditation #Qigong on the right of the main blog page.
